Campaigning Fellowship for Young Muslims
Partnering with the Islamic Council of Victoria, this Melbourne-based program will equip young Muslims (ages 15-35) with all the basics they’d need to know to be effective change-makers – covering areas like campaign strategy, organising, messaging and framing, media, political engagement, and more.
Over a five month period, participants will attend two weekend retreats, engage in 11 workshops, be paired with experienced campaigners of colour for mentoring, and lead a real life campaigning project as part of the program.

What you’ll learn
This program provides you with the skills to run campaigns to change your community. It will target and highlight the issues that keep communities and people of colour outside of the activist space, break down these barriers and provide the skills needed to become effective campaigners and organisers.
You’ll leave with the campaign and leadership skills to win – you’ll learn how to change hearts, minds, public policy and corporate behaviour.
Every workshop will include training, practical experience and relevant case studies. You’ll also take part in a real life campaign project as part of your experience.
To help you along, you’ll be partnered with an experienced campaigner to ensure you gain the vital campaign insights you need to get the most out of the Fellowship. Post the Fellowship, you will have check-ins at the three-month point, and then the six-month point since completing the program, we’ll reflect on how you’re using your learnings and the opportunity for feedback and insight from your mentor.
Expected time commitment
To get the most out of the Fellowship, you will be required to commit to:
- 11 evening workshops that will happen from September 2017 to February 2018 (with a break over December and January for those who have holidays!). The exact days will be confirmed based off the availability of the cohort.
- Two weekend retreats: 9-10 September 2017 and 3-4 March 2018
- Graduation night in March 2018
There is a Fellowship fee of $125 which covers retreat accommodation, food and training materials. Scholarships are available for those who cannot afford this fee.
Please note: this program is Melbourne based however, we are looking to expand to other parts of the country in 2018.
Applications close on Monday the 4th of September 2017.
