• Across the continent, we are witnessing a troubling rise in far-right, neo Nazi and fascist activity, with extremist groups feeling increasingly emboldened to march openly across the continent, intimidating anyone who does not fit into their white only view of this diverse and multicultural nation.
• This escalation threatens the safety, social cohesion and democratic values of all communities, especially communities of colour who are targeted first and most severely
• We must implement interventions now: mobilising our communities, campaigning for racism out of media and politics, training young future leaders of colour to lead their communities and increase representation in decision making rooms, delivering anti-racism education and stretching grassroots capacity
• This continent is falling behind: although culturally and linguistically diverse people make up nearly one third of the population, fewer than 5% hold leadership positions. Our future leaders deserve better representation.

Did you know?

75% of climate and environment organisations reportedly have no First Nations representation on staff or Board and that there are only three climate/environment organisations that have more than five staff members from communities of colour?

Communities of colour are under-represented in all areas, including climate and environmental spaces despite being disproportionately affected.

Our Climate Justice Program is a direct response to this. Over the past six years, we have trained 76 First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse young campaigners and organisers to become leaders in climate spaces and have our voices heard. 

Our aim is to transform the climate movement’s leadership to be more reflective of the communities most affected by the climate crisis – going beyond tokenistic representation through to genuine justice and meaningful impact.
