Racial justice organisation, Democracy in Colour, calls on the New South Wales Electoral Commission to disallow the formalisation of white supremacist and neo Nazi ideologies, as groups such as The National Socialist Network seek to form a political party.
National Director Noura Mansour says:
“There is no place for any form of racism in this country, especially in our halls of power.
We have seen a rise in neo-Nazi activity in our streets, our communities and online. Now, they’re looking for a seat in our parliaments.”
The National Socialist Network, after involvement in a racist protest at NSW Parliament this past Saturday, have threatened to register a ‘White Australia’ political party.
While laws exist against hate speech and Nazi symbolism across states, a more political and cultural approach is necessary to ensure hateful rhetoric and actions against racialised and marginalised groups are effectively addressed and the safety of diverse communities is guaranteed.
Noura Mansour adds:
“The social and political ramifications of formalising hateful and supremacist political ideologies would greenlight racist attacks against FNPOCs communities, as well as pose a serious threat to our democracy. We cannot afford to go backwards!”
